Course Description

This course is the second in a two-part sequence.

This course is designed to provide new Ansys Mechanical users with an expanded knowledge of the complete end-to-end procedure for conducting linear static structural analyses. Students will finish the course with an understanding of a host of techniques to improve both the efficiency of their solutions and the fidelity of their results.

Part 1 introduced the end-to-end solution procedure in the context of a design challenge problem. Part 2 continues with the same design challenge problem, adding numerous refinements to the model with the intention of gaining greater efficiency, accuracy, fidelity to the physical world, and increased confidence in the results. Each of the topics covered in Part 1 is expanded upon, beginning with geometry considerations such as shared topology, symmetry, and beam extraction. Additional assembly connection tools are covered, including advanced contact behaviors and body-to-body beam modeling. Advanced meshing controls are introduced to add higher accuracy and efficiency to the solution. The loading and supports are refined to achieve a better representation of the physical structure and the sequence in which it is loaded. Post-processing is enhanced by a more in-depth consideration of accuracy and validation, along with additional attention to results at the various interfaces among the assembly components.

Teaching Method

A major emphasis is placed on teaching by software demonstration and on the development of a solution to a design challenge from start to finish. Students will then have an opportunity to either repeat the instructor’s steps or work on an additional design challenge workshop. The goal is to give students the knowledge and experience they’ll need to confidently apply what they’ve learned to their own design challenges
